Income Protection
Safeguard your income for when you need it most
Income protection insurance pays you a regular income if you are unable to work as a result of sickness or disability, so that you can continue to meet your financial commitments and living expenses.
Income protection covers both physical and mental illnesses, and injuries that prevent you from working. You can choose how soon after being unable to work you want the benefit to start paying, and it will continue until you can return to work, or until the end of your chosen claim period.
With most policies you can expect to receive about half to two thirds of your earnings before tax from your normal job. This is because some money will be deducted for the state benefits you can claim, and because the income you receive from the policy is tax free.
Some policies also include homemakers, as whilst they may not earn an income, they provide valuable unpaid work - such as childcare - which has a monetary value should they need to pay someone else to undertake it on their behalf.
Income protection policies can also include practical support to assist you in your recovery, including physiotherapy and counselling.
